Yes, the member of the final four that I didn't want to win did indeed win. And I think the final tribal council is what won it for him. It was Admanda's to lose, and she lost it by being weak answering the jury's questions. Todd did a great job on the hot seat. So, I guess he did deserve the win. Amanda just wasn't able to close the deal.
Congratulations, Todd.

Missing the penguin speak
Tonight was Cam-cam's school play. She was a penguin. Looked adorable, too, BTW. But I only caught the end of the play, and missed her speaking her two lines.
Apparently, an accident happened on a bridge on the way home from my work. At least I could see a lot of flashing lights in the distance on and near the bridge. A lot of us where trapped before the bridge, including my wife. I tried to warn her to take an alternative route, but the truth of the matter was, there was no good alternative route. So we just had to wait it out.
I had to have Cam-cam's older sister, Manga-girl, take her and their youngest sister Nana to the school, as grandma leaves early on Thursdays and wasn't at our house. It all worked out, at least.
While I was stuck on the road, an ambulance came and went. Hopefully the person or people injured will be alright. By the time traffic got moving again, there was no sign of what caused the problem.
I stopped by the house before going to the school, once I made it into town, and grabbed the video camera. Maybe if I hadn't, I'd have not missed Cam-cam speak her lines during the play.
Still, from what I saw of it, it was a cute performance by the children. The penguins did manage to save Christmas by helping Santa get his memory back. I was worried there for a moment.

Survivor: China: And then there were four
I've been a viewer of the reality game show Survivor since I got sucked into it during the first season. The current incarnation, Survivor: China, is now down the the final four players, with the season's finale this Sunday night. The remaining contestants are Amanda, the butt-less wonder (her short-shorts are so short they constantly blur out her rear end), Todd, the heir-apparent to the Robfather (in other words, the games self-styled puppet-master/manipulator), Courtney, the wisp (started off being extremely annoying, but isn't as annoying lately), and Denise, the lunch lady (doesn't seem to be the smartest of the lot, but her moves have worked out for her so far). Peih-Gee (pronounced PG) was voted off.
Peih-Gee started off being fairly annoying, and managed to stay annoying more often than not. She did a lot of whining and complaining. And she was often too confrontational than was wise. Yet, towards the end, I kept finding myself rooting for her. I was hoping she'd find a way to save her skin yet again. She was definitely the player with nine lives this season, as the other competitors kept gunning for her and yet she'd manage to survive yet again. Maybe that is why I was rooting for her, because she was a big-time underdog. Not to mention spunky. But in the end, her luck finally ran out on her.
My wife was for James, the grave-digger (and one of the most dominate players in the game ever) until he was blind-sided and sent packing. Since then, she's been an anti-Todd viewer, having no one left (well, after Erik went home) for which she wanted to support. Perhaps influenced some by her strong anti-Todd stance, I've become a bit of an anti-Todd-er, too. So when Amanda starting plotting on getting rid of Todd, Mrs. Quill starting leaning pro-Amanda.
My opinion of Amanda improved this last episode, too, I think because I really liked how she bonded with Peih-Gee when everyone else went to the Great Wall. It was a very human thing to do, and I like humans (I'm very pro-human, in fact, you could say I think they are superior). You could tell she was sad to see Peih-Gee go (and not Todd) at the tribal council (that's where they vote someone off the game). I think she'd had voted Todd off if she could have convinced Denise to vote that way, too.
Why do I like Survivor? Good question, and one to which I'm not sure I know the answer. I know part of the reason I enjoy the show is I like to play out strategies in my head, to try to figure out what the best move would be from the point of view of different players. I also like to play out in my head what I think I'd do in a given situation. Another part of the puzzle would be some of the people on the show are just very fascinating and fun to watch! I'm sure if Rudy wasn't in that first season of Survivor, I'd not got hooked on the show. Blame Rudy, it's all his fault!
We won't be home Sunday night, so we'll have to watch the finale later off the DVR. I haven't found this season as engaging as most of the previous seasons, but have still enjoyed it non-the-less. I hope Amanda wins, and if not her, then Denise (although I don't think Denise could win against anyone that's left in the game, except maybe Courtney). At least, I hope Todd don't win.

Ice Storm
The first ice storm of the winter has come and gone in the great state of Oklahoma. By some measurements, it is the worse one that we've had. More people in the state have lost power in this storm than in any others previously. For its effects on me, personally, though, it is the most mild one.
The damage caused by the storm in the small town in which I live is fairly slight. I've seen no downed trees or branches locally, and as far as I know, no one's lost electricity here. The town did lose water for most of the day on Monday, but the way I see it that had more to do with cold temperatures and not the ice storm itself.
The 2000 storm did a lot of damages to the trees in our yard. There is still evidence of that storm's damage high in our pecan trees. Branches that were broke, and partially healed, growing now at odd downward angles, their contortions mostly only visible during the winter when they are not obscured by leaves. We were without power for three or four days. That storm also took our our mailbox.
The most damage this week's storm caused me was that I slipped on the icy steps leaving the house yesterday and bruised my buttocks and shoulder. I'm a little sore, but a lot better off than a lot of other people in the state.
I find it a bit odd that the four most severe ice storms in Oklahoma's recorded history have all happened since the year 2000. Is this the shape of things to come? A local side effect of global climate change? It's enough to make a person go 'hmmmmmmm'.
Another winter storm is due Friday afternoon/evening, this one bringing mostly snow. The kids will like that.
